  1. Ohio Ian!

I know you haven't yet left, but wanted to make sure I could find your blog and not embarass myself figuring out how to use it. How am I doing so far? Anyway, I'll give you a call today since it will be the last time I can call you for free, for awhile. Just remember, we're only two plane flights away. Not sure if that will be comforting or scary (can't I ever get away from these people?!), but there it is.

We love you so much and words cannot even begin to describe how proud we are of you. Enjoy every single minute! Aunt Julabiah

  3. What would a comment wall be without a mother's post? So...here it is. This is your last morning in your home for awhile and I already can feel the loss of your laughter and good energy it. It will be wonderful when it returns and make our house a home again.

In the meantime, know that I am ALWAYS thinking of you and wishing you a worthwhile and exciting experience in Japan. I know that you'll grow lots physically and spiritually. I know that everyone you meet will be touched by your magic personality and when I think about how many people will be blessed by your presence...I don't mind sharing you so much! You will be the best ambassador imaginable for our country, our community and your family who love you more than life.

I am so proud of you Ian!!! I wish you an amazing experience abroad and know that I am behind you 100%

    I love you,
    Mom

  4. Ian,

Like everyone else in the family, I'm simultaneously excited for you, and also feeling melancholy that you won't be around for the next ten months. You're going to have such an amazing time there, and the experience will be nothing but transformative. We'll be waiting here for you, and we'll be certain to completely embarrass you at the airport in June.

A few choice pieces of advice:
    1) Don't scratch it. It may be infected.
    2) Never get in a car driven by a man named "Twitchy"
    3) When short on cash, always ask the waiter for the "free" special, as advertised.

    Miss you already, guy,
    Unca Lars

  5. Ian,
Just saw your mom and Dennis at a party for Ducci. It was at Mary and Tom's house. Your mom was freaking out at 2:30, waiting for you to land. I woke up at 4,thinking that you were landing. We are all the wind beneath your wings.
Hope you can take time to blog, but know you are fitting in and may not have time.
If it is all a bit overwhelming at first, don't worry. It will smooth out soon.
Maddie and Tobey miss you. As do I. Love, Grandma m.

  6. Thinking aloud said...

Busy day today...two parties! Second one with dog runners from Gilbert Lake. Great creamy type desserts. We'll leave you alone once we hear that all went well with your arrival, etc. Paid another fine at Rotary for having an ambassador for a grandson.

Love and say hello to your new family for me.

    Grandpa B.

  7. Lars and I are at your Grandma and Grandpa S.'s. We're trying to find a movie to watch and Chloe and Mittens send their love (in a cat sort of way). Looks like it might be a James Dean movie ("Giant.") We'll save some dessert for you. It might be a bit moldy when you return. Hopefully you won't mind too much.
    Love,
Sarah (who I guess will appear as SER from now on)

  8. Hi Ian,
What did I tell you. Everybody wants to practice their English.
I heard that you will be going to your first host family soon. Let us know what things are like. Is it real city? When do you start school? What will you study? Have you learned karate yet?

What will I do without you to dump me in the lake? Grandma m.

  9. Ohio Ian-san!

Can't to wait to hear about the latest exciting adventures in Japan. Let's face it, even eating at a restaurant can be a pretty exciting/scary experience.

If you can, be sure to get thee to Yoyogi Park in Tokyo. On the avenue of teen bands, my favorite was the Twisted Sister wanna be's, but I'm sure you'll have your own favorites. When you're there, don't forget to rent a dog if you want to meet some babes.

Life here is unchanged, but we're thinking of introducing Nato to Ellie for breakfast so that we can prepare her to follow in your footsteps when she turns 15. It's not going so well, so far.

Anyway, hope you're having a wonderful time, but if you do get in a bind, keep in mind Ellie's treasured words of advice ..."If you have any poo, fling it NOW".

    Love,
    Aunt Julabiah

  10. Hi Buddy,
I've been getting periodic reports on how you're doing from your Grandma Linda, your mom, and you Aunt Jules. They told me I wasn't supposed to write to you for while, but I figured it was time.
Have you mastered how to say "yes, I was planning to clean that up" yet? If not, lets get on the stick. Steve had to get his appendix out and also had to have an abcess removed from his left elbow. He had to have general anesthesia twice in the space of about 6 weeks and it pretty much took him out of soccer practice.
We have just about stopped construction on the cabeen (as Ryan calls it) for the year. Next year we will get the electricity and the dancing girls. Ryan will probably move his mailing address there once the building is finished.
PJ has settled in pretty fast at St. Rose. When I call him and say "it's dad" he says "dad who". You know him, he just pretty much enjoys himself no matter where he is. Even though Lizzie dumped him they are going to dinner this Saturday night. PJ's the only kid I know who doesn't take getting dumped by a girl personally.
I currently painting Eomer and Rohirrim returning to Helms Deep to force the Uruk Hai to retreat into Fanghorn Forrest where the tree ents are waiting for them. I hope I can find a way to send you a picture of the completed dioramma.
Take care Buddy, and don't take any wooden yen. Love, Pseudodad
